Huna

Ancient Hawaiian Energy Healing

What is Huna?

Huna is the modern Western label given to the ancient healing and spiritual shamanism of ancient Hawai`i. The teachings have been passed down through particular family lineages, and were once secret and carefully guarded – but today, some families teach Huna openly. Huna is sometimes associated with neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) or hypnosis, but it is distinctly different from these practices. Instead, Huna is a way of thinking, doing, and being, with processes and techniques that can assist you in your personal, professional, and spiritual growth and development.

Family Lineage

The school’s Huna lineage, Hālau Ho`omanaloa (School of Permanent Empowerment) in Kona, Hawai`i, descends from the Bray and James families, with significant influence from Uncle George Na`ope, Kumu John Ka`imikaua, and Aunty Bernie (Na`ope) Konanui. Our current teachers are Kumu/Dr. Matthew James and Kumu Etua Lopes.  This is an unbroken Huna lineage of 28 generations.

~ Hanging onto the negative feelings and thought patterns for an extended period might eventually appear as uncomfortable physical conditions ~

Are you ready to let go?

Ho`oku`u - Releasing of negative emotions such as anger, fear, guilt, sadness, hurt, limiting decisions/beliefs.

Ho`oku`u works to release negative emotions such as anger, sadness, hurt, fear, guilt, and limiting decisions, and limiting beliefs. Hanging onto these negative feelings and thought patterns for an extended period might eventually appear as uncomfortable physical conditions. Through the practice, you come to trust the unconscious mind and be free from these negative emotions and limiting thinking.

Ho`oponopono - Forgiveness process.  Ho`o means to make, pono means to be right for yourself.  It’s a powerful forgiveness process and renews an energetic relationship with anybody you desire.

In recent times, this ancient technique was publically taught by Mornah Simeona. Our Hālau credits Mornah with bringing this technique forward. Ho`o means “to make,” and pono means “to be right for/with yourself.” (There is no exact English translation for pono, but pono also means to be right with others and our surroundings.

Pono is to forgive and let it go.  In Hawaiian, when a word is spoken twice, it means it has twice the power/strength. In this case, pono used twice means doubly right.)

Ho`oponopono is a powerful forgiveness process that renews energetic relationships with others. For example, when you are holding a grudge towards someone – regardless of whether they were right or wrong, or whether their mistake was an honest one – we hurt only ourselves. By forgiving both ourselves and our perceptions of others, we can create a fresh start for ourselves and in those relationships.

Na Ao Opua Kilokilo Ka Haiki A Na Lani - Uses some of these symbols (Opua) to harmonize your energy.

This is the name of 36 ancient Hawaiian energy symbols, and Hālau Ho`omanaloa is the caretaker of these 36 symbols.
Each symbol represents the energy of (or an aspect of) the Goddess Na Wahine.  Some priests and priestesses of old Hawai`i referred to Na Wahine as “The Infinite Serene Flame of Love and Protection.”

Use some of these symbols with other Huna techniques can assist with the release of unwanted negative emotions and thought processes, and helps to harmonize our energy.  Sachiko may use these symbols over energy centers such as chakras or specific acupuncture points.  The sensation tends to be very subtle; some people experience the symbol energy as relaxing and refreshing.
