What is Huna?
Huna is the modern Western label given to the ancient healing and spiritual shamanism of ancient Hawai`i. The teachings have been passed down through particular family lineages, and were once secret and carefully guarded – but today, some families teach Huna openly. Huna is sometimes associated with neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) or hypnosis, but it is distinctly different from these practices. Instead, Huna is a way of thinking, doing, and being, with processes and techniques that can assist you in your personal, professional, and spiritual growth and development.
Family Lineage
The school’s Huna lineage, Hālau Ho`omanaloa (School of Energetic Empowerment) in Kona, Hawai`i, descends from the Bray and James families, with significant influence from Uncle George Na`ope, Kumu John Ka`imikaua, and Aunty Bernie (Na`ope) Konanui. Our current teachers are Kumu/Dr. Matthew James and Kumu Etua Lopes. This is an unbroken Huna lineage of 121 generations.

Testimonials from the last workshops:
"I enjoyed the workshop very much! I have been in other Huna sessions and there is always something new, something that I forgot or something that I didn't catch in previous sessions. The location was fantastic, with opportunities to go for a walk during our breaks. The sessions were very dynamic, allowing our group to practice and interact with each other.
Kumu Karen was amazing! Her energy, her vast knowledge, and her welcoming personality made us feel at home right from the beginning. She is the reason why I came back to this workshop. I love her teaching style and how approachable and understanding she is to our "sometimes silly" questions. I feel this workshop gave us the right tools and the foundation to understand energy at a beginning level and to practice in our every-day life.
I strongly recommend this workshop to any person interested in learning about Huna, learning about energy, and learning about themselves in a different perspective. Thanks Kumu Karen and Sachiko for making this workshop possible!"

“It was beneficial in the way I expected – feeling the power of the energy flowing while doing forgiveness work and symbol work. It was also beneficial in the unexpected way of meeting wonderful people with similar mindsets and interests. I have used the Huna symbols to add protection and to my property and workspace, and I have felt uplifted the whole week since the workshop”.
